Plantation Owner

It’s good to have land. And it is better if you have nice land, really nice land, that you can do things with. Farming is great. Everyone loves farmers. They give us food. But really, how much corn and how many tomatoes do we really need? What we really need is tobacco.

Tobacco is everyone’s friend. It has a pleasant scent to it, especially when burned. It is nice to look at. It is easy to grow. It is good for you. And the people just can’t get enough of it. The problem is, however, when you try to buy it in the store it is super expensive, due to taxes. If you try to avoid the taxes by buying it from a place that doesn’t tax as much, then they screw you again by trying to charge you with tax evasion and smuggling. It isn’t fair. You just want to enjoy the bounty of God’s earth and those parasites in power want to rob you.

If only there was a good solution. Well, there is a good solution. Tobacco does not naturally occur in gas station mini-marts. It comes from seeds that you can plant in the ground. You can get those seeds easily and if you live in many parts of the world they will grow just as easily outdoors.

To do this job you will need access to a small amount of land, nothing more than a small garden, during the summer. Internet access is also helpful. Other than that, nothing special is required.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what sort of tobacco you want to grow. Some types are used to make cigarettes. Others are used to make cigars. Investigate the different types of tobacco plants out there. Figure out which one would grow best in your environment.

Go online and purchase the seeds. You can often find deals on Amazon, Ebay, and other internet sites. There are usually detailed directions for planting the tobacco that usually involve planting them first inside until they sprout and then replanting them outside once they get a little bigger. If you are like me and don’t have much of a green thumb, you can often find people selling seedlings. I purchased some tobacco seedlings off of Ebay a few years ago. They arrived without incident and I just planted them in my garden. With just a little care they promptly took off and grew to full size. The following year, I did not replant anything and new plants sprouted up for another harvest.

Curing tobacco is not especially hard and there are several guides on the internet on how to do this or you can purchase a book. A tobacco barn is not a very complex structure. There are gaps in it to let the air in. You don’t need to build a big tobacco barn, but a little shed would suffice.

You don’t even really need to go that far. You could harvest the seeds and sell them on the internet. You could also sell some of the plants yourself or the leaves to friends and family members. You could also offer a course to people in your community about how to grow and cure tobacco yourself. There are a lot of smokers out there who are sick and tired of paying taxes through the nose to enjoy a few smokes. Many people are interested in producing it themselves, if only to stick it to the man.

It would also be worth contacting any local or somewhat local tobacco companies, to see if they would be interested in purchasing your product. Perhaps they could market your tobacco as locally grown and thus somehow more environmentally friendly. This may only be an option if your home farm is big enough.

You should be careful about selling cured and packaged tobacco to people directly. It is likely that your local government might seek to come after you for violating one of their stupid laws.

You should also realize that crops need to be rotated. If you grow tobacco year after year on the same land you will deplete your soil.

Hopefully this project will allow you to save lots of money, if you smoke, and/or save your friends money while allowing you to make a few extra bucks on the side.
